| Vontae's brother Vernon made headlines this year in San Francisco amidst character questions, and sadly that's a trait that seems to run in the family. Unquestionably talented with ideal physique for the position and raw athletic explosiveness, Vontae was benched this year by Ron Zook and has been known to talk back to coaches. In terms of tools, however, there's not much to quibble with: Davis is a gifted athlete, imposing physical presence, and fluid defender with the type of elite tools NFL scouts covet. He illustrates fluid footwork when transitioning and can lock up bigger receivers at the line with his well-built frame. In run-protection, Davis is a sound tackler and can shed blocks when he wants to, but this is another area where character and attitude is a red flag. Davis has also used his physical gifts in the return game and is generally an explosive asset wherever he's placed on the field. The only roadblock for this talented corner is in between the ears. He needs to become more disciplined and technically sound, but the tools and ability are clearly there. |
